2005 - Progress against Objectives

 

Fundamental study for environmental fate of estrogenic substances in rivers receiving municipal sewage effluents

• Development of improved method for the measurement of oestrogens and their conjugates (Japan)
• Development of knowledge on fate of steroidal oestrogens in STWs and receiving waters in Japan
• Extensive information on the fate and behaviour of steroidal oestrogens in UK STWs and receiving waters and the effectiveness of various different treatment processes on their removal.

Fundamental study on the environmental fate of oestrogenic substances in rivers receiving municipal sewage effluents

• Development of environmental fate simulation model, including for wastewater, river water and biota (data on fate of oestrogenic substances derived from UK and Japan)
• Information on ecological impacts linked with effluent treatment technologies
  

Evaluation of biological implications (effects) of a decrease in oestrogenic substances

• Ecological impact assessment via field studies and through on-site exposure investigations
